Nis is a very old town, full of remains from the Roman empire.
The river that runs through Nis is called Nisava (the river of fairies).
The fortress you can see on this photo was actually build by Turks
(Serbia had been occupied by Turks for five centuries, and Nis was
finally liberated in 1878).
